Smart Client Migration

Smart Client is a cards and transaction management application that Thredd made available to clients before Thredd Portal.

It does not offer identity and access management functionality for your organisation, applications or users. Instead, a Organisation Admin user at your organisation must use Thredd Portal to manage the access and roles for users of Smart Client and other Thredd applications and services.

As a result of Thredd's enhancements to its platform, a new version of Smart Client is available to clients.

To continue using Smart Client, you must download and install the latest version of Smart Client from Thredd.

If you do not use Smart Client, and instead use Thredd Portal for your cards and transaction management, do not follow these steps to download and install Smart Client.

System Requirements

To install the Thredd Smart Client application, you require a computer running Windows 7 or later.

Before you download and install Smart Client, you need to install the prerequisite software:

  • Microsoft .Net Framework 5 (x64)

  • Microsoft .Net Framework 4.8 (x64)

  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2019 (version 16.11.31)

To install the prerequisite software, use Microsoft Edge to click on one of the following links that is relevant to your environment.

For best practice, Thredd recommends that you first set up your organisation's access in the UAT (User Acceptance Testing) environment, so that you can verify that your organisation can use Thredd applications and API endpoints successfully.

Migrating Smart Client

To update to the latest version of Smart Client in a UAT (User Acceptance Testing) environment:

  1. Check if you already have an existing version of Smart Client installed, and remove any previous version.

  2. Download the latest UAT version of Smart Client.

  3. Select Download prerequisites and save the archive to your local drive.

  4. Extract the archive and run/open the file ReportViewer.exe, and make sure that the file is not blocked by antivirus or any other software.

  5. Once you have installed the prerequisites, select Launch and follow the online instructions to access Smart Client.

  6. Test the latest UAT version of Smart Client and verify that it works as you expect.

When you are satisfied that you can successfully use the new version of Smart Client, you should inform Thredd and coordinate preparing for moving to your Production environment.

To update to the latest version of Smart Client in a Production environment:

  1. Download and install the latest Production version of Smart Client, but otherwise following the previous instructions.

  2. Test the latest version of Smart Client and verify that it works as you expect.

  3. When you are satisfied that you can successfully use the new version of Smart Client, remove the previous version of Smart Client.
